I would like to use Nikon Speedlight SB-28 flash as the off camera flash with my Canon 30D. 30D will have Canon 580EX on camera. I have this flash from my old camera equipment and it is "free" at this time. What would I need to trigger the SB-28 in this set up?

IfI could use this set up it will save me buying one extra flash...:-)

The purpose is to light up the big rooms where one flash does not have enough light to do it.

You can purchase an optical slave to fire the remote flash but remember you will have no TTL feature. You will have to set the camera and all of the flashes to manual mode.

Would thisoptical slave be Canon or Nikon? or they are all generic and will work with each other? And how expensive are they?

I set my camera to manual anyway but flash to ETTL for proper exposure. Looks likeI would loose all of that.

This doesn't seem like I will be saving anything by going this route...

For a remote setup search eBay for "radio flash" there is a p lace out of Hong Kong that sells em for just over $20 shipped to the US.

Check out strobist.com for techniques on using them
