The Vivitar ring flash would probably work as a manual flash if it has a hotshoe connector as most DSLRs don't have a PC connector. PC/hotshoe adapters are available however.

You should ensure that the voltage on the hotshoe or PC connector of the flash doesn't exceed the camera specifications. Some of the older flash units can put several hundred volts or the wrong polarity voltage on the hotshoe or PC connector that will fry the camera circuits. Check http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html for details. You should use a WEIN SAFE-SYNC HOTSHOE/HI VOLT SYNCH REG to protect the camera from the flash. It provides both a hotshoe and a PC connector. http://www.weinproducts.com/safesyncs.htm

The Nikon 'Macro Cool-light SL-1' accessory is a ring-light using white LEDs that screws onto the standard 28 mm lens thread of the Coolpix 950, 990, 995 or 4500 or the Coolpix 880, 885 or 775 with a step down adapter ring. Unless you can find a DSLR lens with a 28mm filter ring it won't work! Most lenses are 52mm and up.
