I'm planning on going to NYC on vacation and would like to get some nice night pics of the city.

I have never had an external flash before so any help would be great

Thanks

Don

Don-

If you purchased the Canon EX-430 it would be full TTL and would work automatically with your Rebel. If you want to keep your costs down you could go to a DigiSlave 3000, and it would work on your hot show, but it would be a manual flash and take some adjustments.

Don,

The 430 Sarah mentioned is indeed a good flash.

However, I'm curious. You mentioned you wanted to "get some nice night pics of the city". What types of photos are you wanting to get? For certain types flash will be useful for others it's completely useless. For instance, external flash is great if you want photos of people out on the town. But if you want photos of the buildings, citicapes a flash isn't going to be any use. In those cases, high ISO, IS lenses or tripods are the best route.
