That one made my day (I'm still chuckling after comparing the images). :-)

Update: I brought my flash (and camera) back to Ritz camera and advised them that the flash did not work with my Nikon 5700. They guy there was surprised that it did not work and proceeded to try to get it to work with no success. We then tried the SB 600 and it worked with our first try. Needless to say, thanks to some insightful info here, not only did I get a flash that worked with my camera, but simply, I have a better external flash which will be more useful in different situations. Now I have to study, study, study, on using the flash.

That's interesting (that the SB-400 doesn't work on the CP 5700). Here's Nikon's compatibility chart for Coolpix/flash combos (but, it does not include the SB-400).

Blueberry-

The Nikon SB-400 is a very handy flash. I use it all the time. It can easily bounce off an 8 to 10 foot ceiling. No, the flash does not swivel. But that for a lot of folks is not a huge disadvantage. for its cost the SB-400 is a good hobbyist flash.
