Default External flash for F717 question

Has anyone used a Sunpak 4000 flash on the F717? Is it safe to use?

Depends on which Sunpack model 4000 as there's at least three of them:

Auto Zoom 4000, No 200V, measured by Max Osmond
Power Zoom 4000, AF Yes 3.6V, measured by Kees Dorsman
MS-4000 monolight, Yes 5.8V, measured by Alan Fairley

From http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html which has a list of flash trigger voltages (the voltage on the flash contacts).
