Default Flash Diffusers

Hello All,

I am after some advice with regard to flash diffusers. Looking for a good one for portraits. Trawling through the internet I happened across the Gary Fong Lightsphere. I was very impressed with the demonstration videos and how simple it appeared to get a fantastically soft light. Looking for opinions from people who use a Lightsphere or from Pros with their opinions. I currently use a Nikon SB600.

Thanks in advance,

Ryno

I would personally check this out, they do great jobs at really good prices. Also you can make your own and the amount of flash isn't reduced as much as the lightsphere.

I love the light sphere. It's a step up in image quality from bounce flash, and a quantum leap from direct flash. Fong also sells a new gadget called the Puffer, which diffuses pop-up flashes. Works well, although it swallows a lot of light and is really only for close-ups.

Gary Fong's Light Sphere is effective, but oh so large! I have used it for weddings and had good results, but it is not something you want with you all the time. Lumiquest is a better "all the time" companion.

You may also want to look at this option for $6.99 USD from a reputable Hong Kong based vendor:

It's similar to the bounce card options Mark1616 mentioned. Shipping runs $3.00 to my address in the U.S. for it (making it $9.99 total including shipping). So, it probably wouldn't be too bad to Australia either. If you create an account, add it to your cart and go to Checkout, you can see shipping cost (and just continue shopping versus processing the order).

Wasn't aware you had shot weddings. Do you have some examples of how well it worked? I would also be interested to see some of your wedding photos (a new thread) as we never really get to see your work, we only get to hear about your teaching etc so would be nice.
