Default Sony DSC-S85 FLASH compatability

Hello I'm new to the site.
I would like to know if I can use a Vivitar 2500 flash unit with my Sony DSC-S85 I am using a Vivitar 70-210 macro zoom and wish to get a bit more light on macro subjects, if compatible what cable would I need?
Thanks.
Chester

Chester:

That camera uses a proprietary ACC connector for external flashes (the flash shoe on it is "cold"), and was designed to work only with a Sony proprietary flash like the HVL-F1000 (the flash model available for it when the DSC-S85 was first introduced in 2001).

P.S.

You could probably use a "digital aware" slave flash with it (designed to trigger when it sees the camera's built in flash trigger). But, it would probably be more trouble than it's worth trying to use a directly connected flash, other than a model designed to work with the Sony proprietary ACC connector on it.
