I use rechargeables and keep a set of alkalines as backup in case of emergency.

If you use the hybrid such as the Eneloop then you don't need backup as their shelf life are over a year:

They also provide more flashes (and recycle faster) than regular alkaline...

BBA - yes but that is something I can explain much better to my wife than having 7 flashes and a ringlight. And those batteries I can get at any mall.

Still don't have enough of them .... Darn
