Default canon 50D and canon 580exll flash

hello peoples,
does the 50D pop-up flash have the ability to trigger the 580ex if it is set up off camera and without a cord.
my friend has a nikon D90 and she is able to do it.

A number of Nikon DSLRs can be configured as flash commanders aka wireless multi-flash support. The 50D is shown as having wireless multi-flash support so review your owner's manual for instructions on how to set it up.

The flash needs to be put in remote mode and the camera in commander mode. The camera and flash must be on the same channel. The choice is to allow up to four photographers to work the same area without interfering with each other. The groups are to allow the flash output of multiple flash units to be controlled differently, for example Group A is +1 EV and Group B is -1 EV.
