Default 500 DG Super vs 550 EX?

is there anybody that can give me an honest comparison between the two flashes? from what i understand the 500 DG Super is basically identical to the 550 EX... FE lock, e-ttl, ect...
The issue is the less than 1/2 price comparing the sigma and canon flash.
thanks in advance,
David

That's exactly correct... The GN is slightly less for what it's worth but much more power than the similarly priced 420EX, and it still has all the manual controls!

i forgot to ask, does the 500dg super have the ability to wirelessly control other flashes, or be a wireless slave?
thanks,
David

YES, it supports the wireless modes too! http://www.sigmaphoto.com/html/news/500dg_super.htm

... Another minor difference is the 550EX zooms down to 24mm (instead of 28mm on the 500DG super). -> You just have to pull-out an identical built-in diffuser (ie 17mm) sooner that's all!

Allright, here's the scoop:

... The best buy is the 550EX set (including the ST-E2): http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=226523&is=USA

You'll get the best price this way! Other than that the Sigma 500DG Super beats the 420EX in every category, especially if one already has a 550EX, the 500DG Super can fill in as execellent wireless slaves as well.

The ST-E2 alone costs more than the 500DG Super!

BTW, don't worry too much about the above AF illuminator coverage... I have this feature disabled through the custom function on my 10D. The camera does not need it, and it's so tacky (and offensive) to scan people like merchandises @ the check out counter!
