Hi,

I plan to get a slave flash for A80? Anyone have recommendation which brand and models to get? Or which one is the best for indoor portrait photography?

Thanks

A80: no hotshoe, no PC terminal, so you have to use optical slave.

If it always preflash, there are many slave flash on the market that take it into account, some better than other:

If you can disable the preflash, than any external flash will do with a cheap slave cell attached

I personally use a Metz 34-CS2 Digital that will work with all cameras, whether or not they preflash. It's more expensive, and runs on two CR2s, but it has lots of power for a small flash (guide number 34m).

I'm also interested in this Metz flash, but I cannot easely decide to buy itbecause I can only flash directly at the object. There's no bouncing option (swivel/tilt). Do you have any experience with the way this unit functions if you actually would prefer indirect flash light ?

I use it for bouncing all the time; holding it in my hand, pointing it at the ceiling, off walls, even on a tripod pointing at the subject from the other end...say if the subject was at the bottom of a "V", my camera would be at one top while the Metz slave would be at the other top on a tripod (with the included flash mount)...just as long as the camera and flash aren't pointing directly at each other.

You mean like this:

Actually, the main reason why I said it is if the flash has an automatic mode, the light from the internal flash will overpower the sensor meaning the external flash won't fire. The above picture I took with the flash in full power manual mode so the sensor on the Metz is disabled.
