I just purchased a Speedlite 420EX and was wondering about compatibility with other digitals (i.e., Nikon Coolpix 8700). Will I lose the E-TTL auto feature using with digital cameras other than Canon?

Canon and Nikonuse different languages to talk to their flashes.

Chances are it won't even fire and if it does it will only work as a manual flash.

You may look into Ritz "Quantaray" house brand, they just released a flash compatible with 'many' OEM by just swapping the bottom: http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs...2&bct=c5849722
