I just got my Sigma EF-500. The manual (in 17 languages) states that the AF Auxiliary light will come on automatically as I focus on dark areas. Does this work on a Canon G5?

NO

... and it's not the flash fault: Theses type of camera uses their image sensor to autofocus and since there's an IR filter in front of them - It renders the IR AF auxilliaryilluminationbeam from theflash useless. Ditto with Canon's own flash... The camera just doen't enable them on!!!

Thanks for this... I use the LED AF assist light in the camera. It works OK.
