Default ring flash/ macro for 7i or 7hi

I am caught between the 7i and 7hi camera (plan to purchase this week), and will be using it for surgical pictures and presentations mainly. Is there any other option besides the macro 1200 ringflash and the flash controller unit. These are very expensive items, and I was wondering if anyone knew of other brands that are compatible. Minolta will not discuss this, as it is against there policy. Thanks.

currently these are the only ones that fully integrate into the system. others can be used but with diminished capability.

Hi there.

I have had a simmular problem with my sony F707.
No good ringflash for dental photo's that would work 100% certain.
So i made a cheap plexiglass plate. Fits around the lens, on top: before the internal flash. Lower part sticks out for 3-5 cm.
Result: no shadow on close distance (2-3cm)photo's. Good color tone.
May be it works for you too.
greetings.

yup, gives you an idea of how much I spent on my LED ring with 18 of them... I was planing to build a 36 LED ring made up of wider angle LED's (for close ups only) but that's on hold since last year. No time, no spare cash
