Thanks for the help, but being novice at this, is there a quick answer?? Is there anyone out there that has a canon A40 powershot and have found a certain item that works for them??

I was searching on e-bay and found this digi flash product that they say works for <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1940224633">"CANON S200 G1 G2 S30 A40 S40 A10 FLASH FREE "</a> but I don't know if these product is worth paying $50 and it doesn't work.

Please help!

thanks.

Digi-Slave DSF-1s!
The Digi-Slave dual mode model DSF-1s features a switch for selectable firing on mode 1 or 2. This adds flexibility and can also be used with digital and conventional cameras that don't use pre-flash. $99.95
This flash is made on purpose for camera which have preflash (your case) . Remember not to use "red eye reduction" mode ( because the cam then preflash 2 times before the right one)
May be some one could confirm for you to be sure.

so, it does not work with your camera, your camera needs a flash that fires at the second camera flash.
