I'm at the beginning of the learning curve on this camera--any camera with this many features. Bought the Phoeni D92-BZS on ebay and get nice bounced light in a totally dark room. But after reading many posts have some questions--is there a better flash in this price range? Will this flash hurt my camera? And what do I do with the synch cable. It does not fit my old Fuji Finepix 2600 or the FZ20? Thanks for any help.

Try the Sunpak 383, 422, 433, or 444. You can buy them for around $30 on ebay.

I have a Sunpak 383 that works well.

I don't use a synch cord, I just attach it to the hotshoe.

for a lightweight, easy to carry around one, try the sunpak ds20. it's cheap and works pretty well. :|

Thank you all for your response. Looks like I can stick with the Phoenix while I'm learning the camera. But I'm curious about flashes you can set off to the side for posed images. Are studio lights the only option? No sure what a slave flash is, or is that what I have? I really appreciate all the expertise available here.
