This is another elegant solution: a bracket with an integrated smart slave cell :

Put your generic flash on it, and the ensemble become a "digital slave flash"

Its so simple. Just stand in front of a large mirror with the external flash pointing too the mirror. take a shot and if the ext flash shows in the mirror the sync is correct.
