I am about to buy a canon A620 & I know that thjere is a canon slave flash unit HFDC1 available for about £70.00 (UK). Does anyone with more experience of external flahes on digi cameras think it is worth buying? Or will the difference between this & the flash on the camera be so negligible as not woth bothering with?

If I were buying one of these cameras today, yes, I would buy at least one of those units. The fact that flash unit exists is actually making me take a look at the A620. The quality of light has the possibility of being so much better if you use a unit like that. Yes, used on the bracket you can extend the effectivedistance, but to me the real advantage is you can hold the unit over and well above the camera since they work wirelessly and create abetter quality lighting effect. If you had a couple of tripods (or assistants) you could buy two and have one on either side and above you. The camera will work with more than one at a time.

Thanks for the replies. I've just picked up the camera & ordered the canon flash. I'll let you know how I get on
