Hi Guys,

I now have 2 x 5600HS flashes that I'm using wirelessly for portrait photography as my 5D doesn't have a PC socket. Problem is that the light is too harsh and hence I'd like the option of fitting a softbox to the flash, or finding a way to mount an umbrella to the tripod.

Anyone know of any makes or models that can give me what I'm looking for?

Thanks in advance.

The lack of a PC socket in most of these so-called 'high end' cameras is amazing. Or even the lack of a hotshoe at all in many$400+ cameras.

Strangely the lowly Kodak DX6490 has a PC socket! But you go find one in any other make or model.

I bought a Nikon AS-15 Sync Terminal Adaptor for $15which fits on a hotshoe allowing you to plug in any array of lights you want.

Hi Cope,

Thanks for the links, really useful. Now if only there was a cheap way to make my 5600HS respond to a single flash command. If I use wireless, the subjects always have their eyes shut. Know of any other way to get wireless with 5600HS's??

Steve, I read somewhere that someone had attached a diffuser to the pop-up flash somehow. I suspect you could just hold a piece of plastic in your left hand, something like the plastic diffuser from a fluorescent light fixture, or a translucent pill bottle?

Thanks Cope,

Tried it last night with a bundle of tissue in front of the pop-up flash. you can barely see the light so no 'lazy eye issues, but it was enough to trigger the flashes. GREAT!!

Only downside is that the flash results i got were very poor though this is probably down to my lack of skill and knowledge. I've been looking for a mount for the flashes so that I can put them on tripods with umbrella's, but over here they are hard to come by, at least those that take a thread for the minolta's base instead of the ones that have a standard hot shoe. Oh why did I buy a camera that has a prporietary fitting.

We live and learn.

Thanks again.
