Sigma EM-140
Could I use this at greater than macro ranges?
I was looking through some of the photo posts and saw a few people using ring lights for modeling photos which is one of the types of photograhpy I want to get deeper into. I'm just wondering if this has the power for that sort of work or if it'd just be a poor choice.

Or is there a better option on the market.

I guess you could, but it's quite limited in function...

With a GN of 14 it's not anymore powerful than most camera's built-in flash, but the problem is it output axis is directly in-line with the lens which would have the most potential for red-eye.

-> you would be much better off with the 500DG Super which has a GN of 50 at more than 3 times the power for less and its head not only sit further away from the lens but can be aimed in any position

The ringflash that is used in modeling photography is more along the lines of this:

I already have a SB-800 as a primary standard flash.
Kalypso nailed what I was looking for though at the moment it's prohibitively expensive for the volume of work I'm currently doing.
