hello to everyone. I am really new to the digi cam and just bought my first digital ( obviously a s5200 from the title ) I got a really great deal . camera for 262 then minus the 50 dollar rebate for a great total of 212. love it so far ( really only have had for about 3 weeks ) . I have seen a lot in past posts about tele lens, in paticular the tcon -17. I am a little confused when talking about lens. the s5200 has a 55mm thread ( as does the tcon 17 ) but I have also been looking at the canon tc-dc52. I believe it has a 52 m thread at 2.4 x . would there be an issue using a step down ring to moubnt to my camera. I know the lens is no 55 across , but how small can I really go before it creates problems ?? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Anytime you use a step-down ring you increase the risk of vignetting. I've used the Canon tele-adapter on a Canon camera and found the vignetting problem unacceptable, especially at wider angles, and that was without a step-down ring. I'm not sure if Fuji makes a tele-adapter for the S5200, but using a lens not specifically designed for this camera probably wouldn't work well, not to mention that adding another lens will likely make your camera 'slower', ie, you'll need to use a wider aperture setting for any given shutter speed.

Save yourself some trouble in looking at wide angle converter
lenses and get the best that there is for your s5200

Kodak Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 55mm 0.7x Wide Angle Converter Lens
Has 55mm threads so will fit directly with your digicam.
