Default Buying a new HS10...What do I need??

Hey guys

In a few weeks I will have the results of my finals, and if I have passed my exams I will get the HS10 as a present. I'm, just like some other users here, a total newby as what it comes about camera's. I have used my old Kodak Easyshare V803 for years, but it is time to move on.

You'll see, it is a big difference. I've made a list of things to order with the HS10, but I don't know if these are the right accessoire. What did you buy with your HS10, or what kinda extra stuff are you guys using???

Here my list:
Fujifilm Finepix HS10
Hama Star 61 (Stand)
Transcend SDHC Class 6 (4GB)
Case Logic TBC-306K (Bag)
58mm Tulip Lens Hood
Sanyo Langlader + 4x AA Eneloop (2000 mAh)
Eneloop 8x AA (2000 mAh)

Here two pics from my old but fine V803, just for fun

  • Amvona Heavy-duty studio tripod w/ball head
  • Amvona Light-weight field tripod 2/ball head
  • Mid-price monopod w/ball head
  • Samsonite tripod used for off-camera flash with umbrella reflector/diffuser
  • Flashes:
  • Sakar (Vivitar) 952AF
  • Vivatar 2800
  • Olympus FL36R
  • Cactus V2 Remote flash unit w/2 receivers
  • DIY "whale tail" type diffuser for the onboard flash
  • 1 1/2 yards of black velvet
  • Olympus TCON-17 Teleconverter

  • To be honest, I've been "collecting" this stuff for a while. But it all works with the HS-10 *and* my Olympus E-620.

I see your from holland as well. well dont know if my advice is worth anything...but i just bought a transcend sd card.8gb class10. previous card was a8gb class4.

    http://www.redcoon.nl/index.php/cmd/shop/a/ProductDetail/pid/B210727/cid/37001/Transcend_SDHC_Card_8GB_Class_10/

I think if you have to buy a new card, you would be better of with a faster and bigger one.
i noticed shooting raw requires a lot of space on my card.
Dont even know which the minimum speed class the hs10 requires

got the eneloops as well...so far so good.
lookiing for a tripod as well.

If class 10 has same price as class 6 - then buy it. Otherwise its "overkill", you do not need class 10.

    I have both - 8/16GB class6 and 8/16GB class10 (Transcend) - no remarkable difference.

Do not believe if someone says you need a 2TB class64 SDHX

with the light weight to the HS10,

All you need is a cullmann nanomax tripod. It also can be a ground tripod. About 45 dollars form Adorama. More the enough for the HS10, you do not need one that are meant for larger dslr camera. If you want a nice travel tripod, joby gorillapod slr. I have one that does a nice job with my epl-1 with the long 200mm zoom on it. Packs small, and will support the camera while wrapped around a pole or solid branch.

    http://www.adorama.com/TPGPSLR.html

Both are easy to find in Europe. Cullmann is German and many stores carry them.

You really do not want to get the hama, it looks like the same one the vivtar and couple of other company have just rebadge.

    Hi Arjan- Nice photos.
Coming from a Sony DSC-V3...Love it too, but as u said, time to move on...

Hi all here! Got my HS10 last week, thanks to the help of people on this forum...So thank you all!
Just had to forget the auto modes as I cant get anything even close to the photos posted here... Im very pleased with it, but its really not a "auto mode" camera. I'll learn the manual mode eventually...

gjtoh: Im impressed with the results of the TCON-17+ HS10. But I think it is 55mm...Do you use some adaptor to attach it to HS10 ?

I caught that, I added that both cullmann and joby are easy to find in stores in Europe.

A 58-55mm step-down ring is required. They are available at any reputable camera store or eBay.
