I was able to borrow a Young-Nuo 560 flash from a friend to use for the weekend. The YN560 is supposed to be their most powerful flash from Young-Nuo. Dave bought the YN560 on E-Bay for $72.00 delivered.
I was interested in trying the YN560 because I like bounce flash a lot. here is the photo I took with the HS10+YN560 combination. Sarah Joyce Last edited by mtclimber; Feb 19, 2011 at 8:47 PM. |

Bounce is the way to fly for indoor portrait stuff, Sarah. I use my Vivitar DF383 on my HS-10 and my E-620. I have a Stofen Omnibounce that I use for outdoor use and it works very well. I also have a Lambency light dome (knock off of a Fong light sphere). It works GREAT but I think it's a bit bulky for stuff like weddings. BTW, I also have a pair of Vivitar 285HV for off-camera flash stuff.

Now that's a good shot! I see no flash shadows in the back. Looks natural!

I have a Sunpak auto 383 thyristor flash that I use with my new HS10. It has a bounce/swivel head and a guide number of 36m at ISO 100 and it worked great with my old S9100, even better with the HS10.
I found it interesting to compare a shot of my Sony DSLR-A200 taken with the HS10 and one of the HS10 taken with the A200 mounted with a Sony HVL-F20AM bounce flash. Surprisingly, no matter what I did the HS10's flash shots always came out better than the A200's. The HS10's auto WB was more accurate than the A200's and the lighting was much more even.

The fun thing about the YN-560 is that you can take it off the camera and trigger it with your pop up flash in one of it's slave modes. That really opens up a lot of doors for creativity in lighting. I have 2 YN-560's and an SB-600 that I use off-camera. I trigger the 600 with a radio trigger (Phottix Strato) and the 560's with the built-in optical trigger. Also check this out for something exremely simple that can really improve the light quality of on-camera bounce flash:
