Fuji S602Z Wide Angle alternative
Can the Olympus WCON 08E B28 wide angle lens be used with the S602Z?

I have some difficulties here in Canada to obtain the wide angle lens from Fuji (WL FX9). One month back order!

I'm looking for an alternative and the Olympus lens seem's to be a good choice.

Any comments?

Alternative 602 lenses
See my post in the lenses section. Not sure yet if auto focus and exposure will track the preset if non Fuji lenses used - no replies from users yet!

If this lens is an "add-on" (i.e. it attaches like a filter), I do not recommend using other manufacturers attachments on a high quality camera, unless you can do extensive testing and return it afterwards at no cost if it proves worthless. Lens attachments are made to complement a specific lens design, including the distance from the front element of the prime lens to the rear element of the attachment. Also, you have to watch for vignetting (black corners) on wide angle attachments when at maximum aperture.

I would agree with MentorRons post unless the non-Fuji lens was free or give away price and you could do a lot of tests.

I got the Fuji lens which I am reasonably happy with. However, see my post in lenses, I did capture some red blurry patches in bright sunlight. I'm wondering if you have to be very careful of sun position or use a (big!) hood.

Hi Martin

I'm also looking for a wide angle for the s602.
Here is my short list, if it can help:
- Fuji one
- WCON 08e
- Raynox 6600

I have saw pictures form the Fuji (seems OK) and there is photo from the Raynox at
I'm still looking for comment / confirmation about the WCON08e (vigneting? distorsion? compatibility?).

There are also some Digital Optics / somthinganium on eBay, but they look crappy.

Let me know if you find something interresting

Got the Fuji one - but still don't know how you fit bits on the front ring - as it's 70mm !

I found the raynox site too, and was pleased that the lenes were
in my price range and that they had sample photos. Some related
threads mentioned focus. Seems OK if you tell it the lens adapter
is on but I am mostly shotting distant subjects. I ended up going
for the wide angle dcr720 and telephoto dcr-1850 pro. Some samples are temporarily posted at

reiterc - thanks, this is nice work! Interestingly, if you take your pics jpg 120 (602 full optical no add-on) and compare with jpg122 ( same with 1850), and magnify to 600x and 300x respectively, how well the 602 still holds itself together in 3Mpix mode!

Lens converters front thread
 Both the Fuji WL-FX9 and Olympus WCON-08 aren't threaded in the front, so attachment of filters/hoods aren't possible without custom modification. It has been done by someone else before. I can provide a link if anyone's interested.

Alakai.. yes I'm interested. If it's possible to push fit the dust cover, it must be possible to make/ find a push on adaptor. What I'd really like is to fit a hood, as I've found reflection probs. using the WCON, but Fuji use non-standard sizes.
