Hi all. Just got a Fuji S9600 and I am looking for an idiots guide to taking some pics. Basically some step by step moves,ie (what button to press to set up pics not in Auto mode, how to set Fstops etc, but literally need step by step guide, I am total amateur). Just basic stuff to get me started. Many thanks. BTW This is best site I have come across.

Do you have the manual for your camera? That's a great place to start - read it. Learn to hold the camera properly...steadily. Learn to use focus lock. Once you've learned all of the camera settings, try different shooting modes. Start with 'P', the try 'A', then 'S', then 'M'. Try taking shots of the same subject using different aperture settings...shutter speeds. Observe the differences. Then practice taking lots of pics. Don't be afraid to make mistakes - you can always delete all the bad pics...one of the joys of digital photography.
There are many sources of camera tutorials online...or take a course at your local community college or perhaps a local high school offers adult education courses. but read your manual first - learn your camera. And of course, you can always ask questions here. Good luck and have fun. the Hun |

To the Hun, many thanks for your reply, one of many you have been kind enough to post on this excellent site. You are right of course, I just need to get into the manual. The fact that it is about the size of War and Peace is a bit off-putting but practice and more practice is the key. Once again many thanks. A simple reply can be so encouraging. Cheers from Ireland.
