Plug and Play??????

Hello Everyone,

I'm not a puter whizz kid so this may be a simple problem to solve (i hope). For some reason when I plug my Finepix A101 into my puter its not being recognized by the Finepix software. I click refresh and still nothing. I have downloaded a new driver but still no good. Any advice would be appreciated:(

Thanks in advance

Mark

What OS are you using and are you using USB?
Need to know this before we can help I suspect!

I am using windows 98. Yes, its a USB port.
I have checked my Device Manager in System Properties and the USB ports have gone missing so I guess that is the problem. But how do I get them back?? :(

Have you checked "view devices by type"
in device manager.

MARK GILLESPIE Sep 18, 2002 4:57 PM

Yeah, the USB ports which used to be there are now missing in "view by type" :(

It seems your USB controllers have been
removed. Contact the support website or
find the controller on the system disk.

When you say the support web site, do you mean for the camera?
And as for finding anything on system disc :(
Like I said on my original posting I'm not too hot with puters. Please excuse my ineptitude but i really appreciate your help here :)

I should have said "your computer support
website". They should have a USB driver to fix this. If your computer came w/ a win98 system disk, the driver should be on it. Hope this helps.

In Control Panel got to System and then to devices where you found your USB problem. Click on the question mark, you should be faced with questions one of which is is re-install driver somewhere! (Sorry can't remember 98 that well) you will need the win98 disc that came with your PC. R-installation should happen automatically.
Connection to the internet would allow your OS to download the drivers from the internet if you do not have or cannot find your windows disc but connect before you attempt the above.
It should be quite quick!

Hi, I run Win 98. When you've tried advice from other posters, you might try a repair utility like Tweakui to recover any broken system files. Also Win 98 needed service pack upgrades to sort out probs on usb. Sorry but it is a 'puter issue not a cam. Can you borrow a usb device e.g scanner?
