Does the S5000 have a manual zoom (ring) ? My Olympus 2500 is a fine camera but, in my search for a replacement, one of the irritating traits I want to get away from is the silly "push the button/lever and eventually.... the zoom moves". For any kind of sports photography, thats a time wasting pain. The Olympus e20 has a manual ring but at $950 it isn't cheap (and only a 4x). The S5000 is only 3mp but thats 50% more than my current Olympus 2500 and probably sufficient for 8x10 prints.
Comments appreciated. |

The S5000 has a manual focus option but you can not adjust the focus via a ring like with s602, but with two buttons ([W]ide and [T]elephoto).
S5000 is not 3MP, it's between 3MP and 6MP (read the Super CCD specifications). |

Sorries after re-reading your post, I realize you were talking about zoom and not focus. Still, my comments apply, just replace "focus" with "zoom".
