Default Step Up/Down

I'm a bit confused about this adaptor ring. For a HS20 I know I would need a 55 to 58 mm to use a TCON 17. Seems like male/female threads and which side their on is a factor. Am I making this more complicated than it is? The camera side must be 58mm but is that a male or female thread.?

G'day otter

You're in good company mate - many shops I deal with quote the 2 numbers as tho they are interchangeable and thus mean the same thing - which you well realise is not the case. A 58mm > 55mm is not the same as a 55mm > 58mm

When I am ordering one of these rings, I specify it 'twice' - ie- a "55>58 step up ring meaning 55mm male thread with a 58mm female thread"

Hope this does not confuse you even more
Regards, Phil

If I understand correctly.... for the H20 to TCON17 I need a step down ring 58mm male thread for camera side to 55mm female thread for the TECON to screw onto/into whatever.
