OK, here's what frustratesme the most about digital cameras in general... the auto focus. The S9000 does a reasonable job of this but can any tell me how to force the focus on to infinity?????

Bill,

It's a little difficult to get used to the auto focus. Sometimes when I'm out shooting landscapes I can't get it to beep to confirm the focus. Apparently, it depends on variations in contrast to be able to set the focus. So I find it necessary to adjust my framing so that the focus area has a specific object to use. Then I press the shutter button halfway to lock the focus and then adjust the framing of my picture. The wide depth of field of the camera seems to handle the rest of the problem for me. I don't know if this is going to help you. You probably already understand the concept of what I am suggesting. But it is the only way I know how to ensure that everything is in focus.

Thanks Jim for the reply.... I was afraid that there was no way to lock this down on infinity, almost like turning it into a P&S camera. I was able to do this on my Toshiba PDR3300.

So in low illumination/contrast situations, infinite focus is going to be a problem. The manual focus on this camera seems lame when working on infinite shots but I will try it again to see if I can force it to infinity.

What started me on this was the post regarding "Shoot the moon"

http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...mp;forum_id=16

How did you get your camera to focus at infinity in that situation....!

Edit: I re-read the posts in the link provided and there is enough information there to make it work... thanks
