Default Comparing CCDs in S602 & S5000

Comments on the expected performance differences between the S602's 3.1 MP 1/1.7" SuperCCD III and the S5000's 3.1 MP 1/2.7" SuperCCD HR would be greatly appreciated.

I assume that the active surface of 1/1.7" SuperCCD III is significantly larger than the 1/2.7" SuperCCD HR but I'm not clear on how the size variance relates to image quality or imaging capability.

Is the 1/2.7" SuperCCD HR a newer and perhaps more advanced imaging technology as compared to the presumably 'older' 1/1.7" SuperCCD III, and how does this factor into evaluation the two cameras on a cost/performance basis?
