Hi Folks and fellow S9100 0wners..
Do you folks shoot in Raw?
Do you shoot in 9mp normal?
Do you shoot in 9mp fine?

I for one usually shoot in 5MP as most of the stuff I do is for the web or e mail.
I have not seen any differance between 9mp normal and fine?
How about you folks?

What other settings do you use?

Genrrally when I shoot images for the local newspaperI shoot in 5MP because they like to keep the file sizes down. But when I find that once in a liftime photo or I always shot at 9MPfine.

The major difference i have found is in prints. 9mPfine can yield AMAZING 16 x 20 while the 5MP is just iffy at 16x 20 and better at 8 x 10. But for newspaper print 5MP looks just as good even full cover shot.

There is a difference, yes, but if what you shoot and the intended output are adequate with 5MP then go for it - don't worry about it. If you were making large high-quaity printsyou'd note there is a difference between normal and fine.

I shoot RAW, and there is in fact also a minor but discernable different between JPEG Fine and RAW - in my testing of actual prints, in a 16x20 print there is clearly a little more resolution and a little less noise in low light with the RAW at any ISO. But that's an extreme case.

Based on your shooting, the only justification I can offer for shooting in fine or RAW is how much better a large print would be if you ever landed that "killer shot" and wanted a big print for the wall - you might not be able to get the quality you wished with the 5MP image.

Hey Folks, thanks for the responses. Since I use the camera primarily at work for our web site, usually I shoot at 2mp for the small file size. for family stuff I use 5mp because I do notice the photos are less noisy than at 9mp UNLESS i am out in daylight..In low light, with out the flash, it is very noisy.
