Default How to fix noise on images

Here is a way to fix the noise problem for Fuji cameras.

If you use Photoshop:

1) Load image that has noise

2) Go to FILTER -> BLUR -> SMART BLUR

3) Enter these values:

Radius 3.0
Threshold 2.7
Quality High
Mode Normal

4) Click OK

5) Go to FILE -> SHARPEN -> UNSHARP MASK

6) Enter these values:

Amount 500%
Radius 0.2
Threshold 0

7) Click OK

And there you go, image with a LOT less noise! I'm not sure with other image sizes, but this one works with 2048 x 1536 resolution.

I also have created an Action for Photoshop and you can download it here

This action is more or less optimized for Finepix s5000 camera, but it might wok OK for other models as well.

Hope this helps!

People also seem to get good reports with NeatImage.

Cheers!

neat image- highly controllable and is both a stand alone and a PS plug in. it is the best and highly controllable. you must read the instructions though or it is highly capable of turning images not exactly the way you would like. i've been using it for for 2 yrs even on scanned slides. the best method out there.

this is an image off a 1Ds at iso 1000 cleaned up using neatimage.

The noise characterics are highly variable with different cameras, incamera settings (resolution, compression, ISO, sharpness etc.) and exposure values. Neat Image is highly sophisticated and versatile program to get rid of different noise characterics without loosing too much (almost any) details. The demo version is free with only few functional limits. You can't save TIFFs with the demo for example.

Some things that aren't free, but do an excellent job for the relatively small outlay (compared to PS) are worth buying!

Neatimage's ability to work to custom noise profiles means you get consistency for your camera and common shot settings.
