EyeMindSoul THX!

Rather the same what I found out by now , except, I used DR = 400% and leave Tone at mid. So will 400% probably be too much?

Cheers

Hakuna, Hi.

I think it is really a case of personal preference. If DR 400% and Tone set to Mid works for you - It is good.

Cheers.

Hi EyeMindSoul,

argh!, those settings bothered me, so I made some more tests. As a result I switched to DR = 200% as standard because there is significant less noise. If there are strong highlights 400% is probably better still.
I tried some shots with Tone = hard too but the results seemed rather unnatural to me besides the increased noise.
So here is, what I will use as P -> C:
ISO = Auto 400
Picture = L 4:3 Fine
DR = 200%
Finepix Color = Chrome
Color = STD
Tone = STD
Sharpness = hard
All others = STD

Thanks to you all!

I'm curious about HS10 settings--how many of these affect a RAW file v. JPEG? Dynamic range? Chrome?

Right now, I'm strictly shooting JPEG and I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and adopt raw and do it all there? Do some of these settings affect the generation of the raw file or are they all applied while the camera generates the JPEG?

(Pointers to a tutorial, etc, are fine.)

PvrFan, Hi.

The settings don't affect the Raw, just the in-camera processing for the Jpeg.

As long as the exposure is correct, the Raw will be quite usable. I normally shoot Raw+Jpeg. With the HS-10, and these settings, I will probably just shoot Jpeg for normal use now. With these settings, the main post process work I am doing to the Jpeg files is sharpening.

Hakuna, Hi.

Settings look fine. I think it is purely personal preference on things such as Tone. Keeping sharpness Hard definitely gets rid of the unwelcome selective noise reduction (smearing). Since adopting these settings, some 1,500 images back, I have had no issue with smearing.

Cheers.
