Let me tell you, wait for the hs10. Really wait for it. Now a days, Digital cameras are excellent. ANY! night shots are a problem and the ones that do take good night shots are the ones that win. The hs10 will have a less detail but you wont be able to tell. it has a 30x zoom which I am dying for, it has hd video (which i dont care cuz i know it will suck) The microphone will most likely pick up audio from the continous focus motor.

I just tried the exr auto mode. My girlfriend can use it just fine but.....she doesnt understand the button goes half way to focus. LOL!

Here is what you are looking at.

if you want zoom and HD video but have purple fringing proplems, panasonic all the way.
if you can live with 15x zoom and no hd video but have better image quality, fuji.
BTW: I am very critical of my images since I'm a graphic designer, so fringing does bother me.

Re the HS10: If by detail you mean resolution, the 10MP doesn't bother me since I never shoot over 5MP on my other cameras. Don't see a need to since most of the images will either end-up on the TV screen via AppleTV and a few will be printed @ 4x6 or a max of 8x10.

Funny you mention your GF not pressing half-way to focus. I have the same trouble explaining to my significant other to click half-way to focus before taking a picture

exactly!

and Sarah is correct when she says "preference"

Just look at the flickr group for fz35 and s200exr

im going to buy a hs10 just to test video on it and prove me wrong. if i like, ill keep all hd100 sany0, s200exr, and hs10. the fz35 is a loaner. its good for everybody.

I really would like to see 30x zoom, its impossible to resist.

It's like the now "classic story" of samsung vs lg. LG is the better monitor for obvious reasons. Many people just don't understand.

I sort of favour the HS10, based on what I could see from my monitor between the two similiar photos... sort of which there was something in between...

Thanks for the comparison rag

Interesting discussions going on over at dpreview on the HS10.

Here's a direct comparison of the HS10 vs. the FZ35:

Awfully small and perhaps unfair photos but ... HS10 looks sharper.
I wouldn't bet on this too much though.

for anybody still interested

s200exr vs fz35

http://www.steves-digicams.com/camer...photos-53.html

Anybody with my kind of taste can see why I like my s200exr over the fz35. It's all about preference.

Here is a good example...just pixel peep.

http://www.steves-digicams.com/camer...r/DSCF7117.JPG

zoom into the image and see for yourself. In other cases I preffer the pany for sharpness and stabalization during image capture.

Cresho - Thanks for the samples. Were the two JPGs taken at different times, the setup and lighting seems to be different. In your opinion, which one had a truer representation of the scene?

Not true to scene but jpeg artifact and visual noise is what I am reffering too. Even though the fz35 has sharper images at times, the noise quality disturbs me. The s200exr has a more natural look with less noise. I don't care about sharpness if it has noise.
