Possibly, but keep in mind that if you use this cam's "true" Silent Mode" you've disabled the flash. Better to just turn off the sounds individually.

I don't think it will save a whole lot. Personally, I'm quite happy with the battery usage on my HS10; consistently getting about 500 shots with Enloop batteries.

I have focus and IS enabled only on shutter press, which I think are a huge drain on batteries if set to continuous.

I like leaving the sound on at a low volume especially for the focus confirmation sound.

To get a GOOD image, a tripod and timer are a must. Yeah, you can get an image without them. But, the difference will amaze you. This was taken with the HS-10 and TCON-17 attached.

Default Viewer Hood

After looking at the HS10 discussions I decided to try adding a hood to the display. The few times I have been out it was very bright. Although I was shooting wide and doing at lot of guessing to raise the camera over the crowd, it was really just a guess.

I ordered and just installed the DU3.0-M in black for about $12. So far I am delighted with the viewer protection and that it does not seem to impair the tilt screen operation. I will field test this this weekend. Google the part number for suppliers.

Love this camera.

I converted it to B&W and used a little USM. That's it. Oh yeah... I used a TCON-17 as well. No cropping on this one.

This TCON17 seems quite popular, does it in addition to the stepdown ring add much weight? Could I screw it on the front of my UV filter ? Do you do that or take off the filter and put it on the lens and then buy a 58mm filter?
