Default S1800 right side much sharper than left side for closeups (defective?)

I was just playing with my S1800 more with close up stuff, and I saw that the right side is significantly sharper than the left. Is that some sort of optical distortion (like barrel distortion), or is this camera just plain suck for macro? I've tried many modes, AF, moving far away and zooming in. Nothing works.

I can't believe this camera could suck this much for macro. It makes me think this is defective. I didn't hear about the S1500 sucking at macro. Being its successor, I can't imagine the S1800 being worse at the predecessor at something.

Here is an image

Issue resolved. The camera was defective. I exchanged for a new one, and the issue is gone.
