Default HS10 folders

It seems there is no way to open a new folder in camera - you have to wait until a set number of images accumulate for a new folder to automatically open. I am used to being able to choose to have a separate folder designated by date in camera for each day's shooting, so I can upload and work with each separately, instead of having to repeatedly upload accumulated unrelated images just to get to the latest ones taken. Am I missing something, or is this another omission like the remote release, for which there is no provision.

Also, there are flanges on the lens for a bayonet lens hood, which is not provided, and none seems to be available. Does anyone know if or when one will be released? The available third party 3-way collapsible generic rubber hoods are lightweight and effective, but add bulk and interfere with the on-board flash.

I cannot answer you question about the folders - I have never had a digital camera that did that.

This hood will work - http://shopfujifilm.com/detail/FUJ+FZ06312-100 - confirmd with pictures in a thread on the dpr forum.

Being somewhat of a novice, in what instances is a hood beneficial?

Gary (not to be confused with the other Gary - he's no novice!)

It can prevent lens flare and offer some lens protection. I have one. I don't keep it on all the time, though. And, let's just say I'm an experienced novice or enthusiastic hobbyist, eh?

Thanks for that - it was also stated that there is an Olympus hood that will fit, but didn't say which one. I ordered one from Fuji, although they are out of stock at the moment and on backorder. There are 58mm screw-on petal hoods on ebay, B&H and Adorama, but they will not reverse for storage on the lens as will a bayonet.
