Try going through the hardware wizard
in control panel. If this doesn't work, make
sure USB is connected in system tools.
Good luck.

Hi

To avoid connecting your camera to your computer, you can use a smartmedia card reader (about $20). It plugs to your PC and is recognized as an external removable hard disk.
However, is your probleme is from Me support of usb, it may not work. If you already have another usb device working, it may be OK. Otherwise, check windows update and your motherboard manufacturer's website for usb drivers updates.

I have the exact same problem. It doesnt matter if I connect it to my home pc or my laptop it is still doing the same thing, the camera freezes and then I have to take out the batteries in order to be able to shut it down. Any advice. I have a 2800zoom. Is this something that the camera has or is it the windows platform?

Hmm weird problem guys. My only problems that I had with my 2800 Zoom in regards to USB connection were that I was not able to delete pictures through Windows Explorer w/o corrupting the smartmedia Viking card. It would always say format error or something along those lines.

About your problem:

I would get a Smartmedia card reader unfortunately. The lockups do not make much sense to me. Sounds like some sort of USB compatibility issue w/ the OS and camera.

Anyway, I just saw this post is 3 years old...lol...ok.
