Default HS 10 Jeckyll & Hyde at24mm....awfull, and not just at 24mm

Well havent posted for a while and the main reason is that the HS10 is a big dissapointment to me. First i thought it had to be my skills, but many of my pics are unfocussed, smudged and lack of detail.

I see lots of pics inhere which i really envy. tacksharp. lots of detail....beautifull. Dont get me wrong i SOMETIMES do shoot lovely pics as well. But most of the time smudge...and lack of focus.

To be sure i put the cam in SR AUTO...now lets have a look.....what can go wrong with a sophisticated camera like the hs 10? In this mode my wife should be able to pick it up and shoot some pics as well right?

Wrong....and to be very sure...i took a walk and brought along my old minolta dimage z1....a 3mp cam...yet never a dissapointment always sharp...........But i wanted more in a camera so i bought the hs10
So i took the cams out to do the test

How did i take pics? well...i pointed both cams in the same direction....steady focus at the same spot click.....shot taken.
I would love to hear your opinion....SHOULD I RETURN MY HS 10 AND HAVE IT CHECKED, COULD THERE BE A FAILURE IN THE CAMERA???
Or could i still be doing something wrong?

I have firmware 1.02 on it and did a reset after upgrading.

Now have a look at it and tell me what you think.

The first pic is the hs10, the second identical pic is the minolta

THE SHOTS I TOOK DURING MY WALK ARE ALL UNFOCUSSED!!!!!!!!!!
HELP BECAUSE IM LOOSING IT

Yes, I get a few of those on the S200exr, too. Frustrating, because there's no indication of focus issue at the time.

They're not out of focus exactly... rather it seems like they are all focused on a point near you and a bit to your left. In every one of those pictures, at least. If I had that much consistency in error in my own camera, I would definitely send it back as defective. Give another one a go and see what happens.

I agree. Looks like something is awry with the camera. Try doing a total reset and see what happens before you ship off or write off the camera.

That is not acceptable. Was the camera dropped or damaged possibly?
Are you getting the focus to lock before firing?
I'll assume you have a filter on it, have you checked to see if its clean? Every image you share shows almost the exact same exposure, which leads me to believe its more in the lens that inside the camera.
Have you checked to see if your battery (used) is on the correct setting, I have heard reports saying the wrong setting can cause the camera to malfunction.

If the camera offers multiple focus points, I'd make sure it is set to the center point to eliminate any possible error cause by that. However, it looks like the lens is simply not focusing, period. Does the camera take good pictures in micro mode?
