It works! I formatted the memory card, and the camera seems to be working just fine again. Awesome!

I'll have to remember that, for the next time this happens.

I would never have guessed (in fact, I didn't!) to check the card. You've given us all something to check when/if we get those symptoms. Thanks!

And now someone found a solution to the problem, cool !
But what may have caused this, corrupted SD card ? something from the PC got on the card where it has been downloading pics to ? You may check the PC for "strange stuff"

Anyway i am glad that the camera works again as it should

Happy shooting !!

Hi. Just stumbled across this thread as I've got the same problem with my HS20EXR. I'll try the SD format as soon as I get home to see if that fixes the problem. Mark.

I do vaguely remember reading somewhere that once your images are downloaded to computer, you have to format the card in camera each time on the HS20- otherwise slow start up appears again..! Not too much of a hindrance, but certainly on odd quirk..!

I have never formatted a card and never had any problems even after uploading to the computer. The only problem I have is that on one of the computers I run Ubuntu and I have to upload from the card not through the camera. Raw files are ok but JPEG corrupt
