Default Practical questions to HS20 owner :-)

Hi, I will get my cam tomorrow.. I have read the whole manual and have some questions:

1) When using EXR modes (not auto) can face recognition and intelligent face detection be disabled. I do not want to use them at all.

2) Is it better for quality and/or speed to use IS mode in continuous or shooting only.. I would like not be forced to use "half-way shutter" in some cases, unless the continuous is really useful.

3) How good is this cam for P&S in auto mode (not EXR) if for example my wife or son has to use it as simple as possible.
Is auto mode that bad? Is it ok like in a more simple P&S camera not bridge type?

4) According to the manual this cam is 730 grams.... How is the "feeling" when using it? Many superzoom are 200-300 grams lighter.

Thanks in advance
Regards

I can answer only no 1 and 4

Yes you can (de)acticvate the face detection on any EXR mode

and about the weight, the more weight the easier it is to hold it still my D90 weighs 2.8 kgs, so i know the difference, it is only a pain when you have it around your neck for a few hours ( the D90) the HS20 you don't even feel.

and the other questions you have to find out yourself,it is a choice, remember the (low) price.

..thx sprint.

The cam is delayed 2 days

Yes...I need to try myself, and I just try to convince myself that the saved money was worth, because no doubt that the cam can do a lot, but I need also a P&S option in this cam, and then be "expert" after some time..
Meaning that I can go away from auto and get better pics.

I have had 2 Canons, the last is A610 which is pretty good but with only 4x. The pics with it are "clean and very good"... also in Auto.

You can just use the EXR auto mode (most of the time) for P&S, and with the latest firmware update the "taken picture" seen on the LCD is as you will get it on the PC.
So brightness, color and contrast are true , this is a big improvement compared to the HS10.
P&S defined, on a DLSR you flick the switch to ON aim press the release button, bang it is there, ad just 1 to a 1/2 second to that and the HS20 will do the same, a little practice with the HS20 will show how fast it can be.
Also keep in mind this has a long zoom so respect the minimum focusing distance to the object (with center metering).

sorry for any typo's ,

Thanks sprint..
my idea is, when not in EXR mode or auto.

1) Average Metering,
2) No face detection and no face tracking.
3) Max 800 ISO
4) Low or medium noise reduction. (I'll start with low)
5) Disable continuous focus focus, using Center
6) 12 MP not 16...
7) IS on

I think that could be a good start and then see if something needs to be
different.

I look forward to hear the first click...

The cam arrived...
First impression is positive and I feel like I have a good "piece of hardware".
It's revision 1B.... and with FW 1.03.

I spent some minutes disabling unnecessary stuff and see the different menus.
(see previous post) :-)
No pics yet... I have some private things to get rid of before doing that.
