Default S5000 OR HP945 ????

Im very new to photography but would
like to start out on the right foot.
I cant decide which to buy - HP945 or Fuji S5000.
I like to paint and would love to have reference
photos on hand rather than the never ending
search for magazine clips.

THANKS !!!!!

Default Not a good comparison

They are two very different cameras. The S5000 is a 3MP camera while the HP 945 is 5MP. Also the S5000 is much less expensive.

You are going to be able to crop the images more and print larger pictures with the HP945 due to the 5MP sensor. It also has the digital flash feature to enhance the lighting.

The S5000 seems to be a very good camera and not nearly as expensive. If you not planning on printing large photos the S5000 is a good choice. You should be able to print very good 8x10 if you don't do a lot of cropping.

If you are willing to spend what the 945 cost you should take a good look at the S7000 which is in the same price range but will take far better photos than the HP.

I know its a tough question unless you have both.
I have been geeked on both cameras and just want to
pick a good product for a change lol !

The sample fuji picks on this site(which is probably the best
site I have ever come across) of a young girl show
great skin tones....

Default Wow what a price difference

In the USA the Fuji 5000 is only about $360 and you can find it for less on sale. The 945 is $599. You probably need someone to comment that is in your market to give you some better advise. It's strange the HP is in line with US prices but not the Fuji. I wouldn't pay that much for the S5000 and I'm not a big fan of the 945 which is known to have slow write times and locks up while the buffer is flushing. Have you considered the Minolta Z2. It is known to be fast, has a big zoom and at least in the US its a lot less expensive than the HP. It has a good movie mode also. The reviews have been very positive on the camera though I have not used one myself.

The 5060 is a very nice camera. Only it uses propriatory batteries and really doen't have a lot of zoom. The image quality though is very nice.

Just a week or so ago, I purchased a FujiS7000 for $500 usd at Best Buy, after the Fuji rebate of $100, my final cost was $400 usd. BTW, I was replacing an older HP digicam.

Hi,

I just wanted to say about HP945. First, battery drain is awful, if power lasts only 15-20 min WITH 2100 nimh aa, thats really, REALLY bad. A70 for example lasts for hours! Adaptive lighting in HP is poor too, in fact it can make your pics worse than without it. Also, I've had stories and reports about other significant problems HP has. Of these two cams u can forget about HP.

a flower shot I took...

I took all these with my S5000, I really love this camera. I think you ought to look into the S5100, which is the newer version of the S5000, they can be had for a great price through Walmart and some other dealers right now and they have a $50.00 rebate, too, which makes them even more of a deal.
