Can you say completely void warranty?!? I don't think I'd be that brave.
As time passes and newer cams come out, warranty phobia recedes and a cam just becomes another piece of kit - men make 'em so men (with skill) can take 'em apart. I've never failed yet, but then I've grown up with technology and not just pushed the buttons!

I guess that makes me a boy then. Hehe. Seriously though, I'm with you on that. Tinkering with electronics has become somewhat of a hobby for me. Usually, when I can't afford the real thing, I'll modify or put something together. But once the electrical parts get teeny tiny, like I'm assuming they would be in a digi-cam, that's where I draw the line for myself. I've yet to come of age in the micro-arena.

There are always simpler means, as you put it (in reference to the 602's lack of native remote shutter release capability), there always the 2 sec timer. But many of us (men) insist on having it, so by whatever means necessary, modding or what have you. We wouldn't be men if we didn't.

I agree at the microchip level, you need a big magnifying glass, jewellers tools and a clean area!

Interfaces from switches and external controls are usually easier, it depends how far in you need to disect to get to the area you want. Often working out how to open the case is the biggest problem, but I see plenty of watch sized posi screws on the 602.

If you've ever reverse-engineered something, you learn how much you need to note and record every step. Note to other readers, I'm not advocating this, just explaining that fear can sometimes limit our perspective on what might be achieved.
