Default UV Filter for 3800?

I've heard that it's a good idea to buy a UV filter to protect the camera, how required should they be? Do they help out a lot? While I'm at it, what kind of UV filter would work on my new soon-to-be Finepix 3800 camera? Thanks.

No replies? Maybe I'll make my question more generic... What filters/lenses would work on the 3800? Is there a specific size you buy?

You should buy the size that fits the Fuji lens adapter. If you deal with a good camera shop, they will sell 'thin' filters, which tend to vignette less. A UV is a good idea to protect the front element of the lens: only remove it to use Tele/Wide attachments or other filters. Always use a lens cap which fits the threads of the filter you buy (one with a 'tether' to attach it to the camera so it doesn't get misplaced).
The problem with the design of this camera, is that filters should go BETWEEN the lens and the adapter, but it won't work with the Fuji. Why should they go there you ask? Because you want the filter, as well as the lens, to be shielded from external light sources, such as the sun. Why again? So that you get better contrast in your images due to less stray light on the glass (does a TV look more contrasy with a light shining on it or in the dark?)

The Finepix 3800 takes 55mm filters. I purchased a UV Filter and a Circular Polarized Filter. They fit fine.
