This review will cover my experience using the "Remote Cable Release for the S5000,S5100,S5500". After I opened the small box which I must say was nicely packed I was surprised to see such a well made and designed product. The reason I mention this is that Thomas Greiser designed this item and builds them in his home. This product is custom fit for the above cameras. It is made of plastic that comes in a black crinkle finish, similar to that of the camera. The mechanical release itself is a cloth covered release cable with a cable lock and a plastic tip to protect the camera shutter button.

Installation:
1. The unit comes pre-assembled, and just snaps around the right hand grip and the two prongs at the rear fit into the strap anchor.

Here are photos of item installed so that you can see what I mentioned above.

Use:
1. Once the unit is installed it is very simple to operate. Just press on the shutter cable a slight bit to focus.
2. Once you hear the two beeps signifying focus press all the way as if you were using your finger and the picture will be taken.

Now my first impressions of this item are very favorable! Well made, easy to install and use. I tried it with a slow shutter speed night shot and it worked flawlessly. I also tried it while the camera was in macro mode with full zoom and auto focus on, and it worked as expected. I don't think it would work in manual focus since you still need your hands on the camera to focus.

P.S. The color in photos is off, the color of the cable release bracket is black and available in other colors by special order.

All in all I find this a great addition to my camera equipment. I give it a full five *****. Again build and design are excellent.

To purchase this item you must send a email to Thomas at [email protected]. He excepts payment by PayPal, US Money order and I believe Certified check.

Apparently Thomas isn't interested in marketing his product. I sent him an e-mail yesterday. No response. I could really use one of those. I have a disability, and am quite shaky. I'm not very mechanically minded and have been trying to come up with a solution. This looks like it would do the trick.

No problem, I am sure you will like having a cable release.
