I freely admit that astrophotography(?) is not my field of expertise, I am much more comfortable with these:

this was with my old S5100, can't wait to try out my S9000 @ the track

It's always better to shoot the moon when it's 3/4 full or less. This will result in more shadows on the surface giving more definition.

Anyway, here's one Itook a while ago with the S5500 .

Thanks for your posts everyone. At this stage it looks like the S9X00 is not the camera if moon pics are your real passion.

I am perplexed though that the 5500 is so crisp and the 9X00 is failing. I would have thought is would be the other way around given that the 9X00 is the lastest camera. With supposedly better characteristics.

BTW, I am not really familiar with the 5500, so to any extremist 5500 users no offense is intended in my remarks.

OK, in an attempt to redeem the 9500 I took some more shots tonight with the full moon, I shot in RAW this time and got much better results, but still a hair softer than the 5500 shot posted earlier (but I'll take the 9500 anyday for action photography):

Yes it is Dustin. I have been restraining myself from sending in a moon shot. Perhaps it will be more appreciated in C & T.
