Apparantly, both s9000 and s6000 use the same lens with the same focal length.
However the imager (sensor) is smaller in the new s6000 (1/1.7 vs. 1/1.6).
I would assume the new version to have larger field of view compared to the s9000.
To be more precise, it should be ~1.06 times larger, or 30-320 in 35mm film numbers rather than 28-300 which is claimed.
It will be interesting to compare the two cameras in that aspect, when both are focused at the same distance. (Well. the subject focus distance affects the focal length which affects the field of view...).

vlevi: Doesn't it work the other way?

As you say, with a smaller sensor the focal lengths will be larger in 35mm equivalents, but these longer focal lengths will have a smaller field of view.

For example at the wide angle setting for both cameras, 30mm = smaller field of view than 28mm. The same is true for the tele 320mm verses 300mm settings.

Is that correct?

Baz.

Baz,

You are correct. I meant one and wrote the other...

Similarly to the crop factor in DSLRs, the picture on the 1/1.7 sensor is croppedcomparedto the 1/1.6 one when both use the same lens.

But I suspect the difference will be so minimal that it will be difficult to see any difference.

You are correct jp. Certainly it is minimal. In fact Fuji's specification for the focal lengths & 35mm equivalents of the S6000 camera are the same as the S9000.

Quote: "Lens Focal Length (Rated) / (35mm Equiv.)

6.2 - 66.7mm/Equivalent to 28 - 300 mm on a 35 mm camera"
