That is an interesting but not a funny shot. If you know what it means, it's not funny at all but a serious warning. First, if you look closely, you can see that the locomotive is on a different track than the tank car.

Second, the "Do not hump" warning refers to a sorting process used in many large railroad switchyards. A long string of cars is pushed up a small hill (the hump) and one or more cars are uncoupled and allowed to roll down the other side of the hump by gravity into preselected switch tracks. It is a very dangerous operation and has been discontinued in many railroad yards.

There have been many pictures shot of cars with the warning on it. It can be very humorous in the right setting, especially if you don't know what it means. I have a picture of an old caboose with the warning on the back of it.

It sure gave me a giggle fit, but then, I am only a teen and would always have my mind in the gutter. ;-)

Okay, again, my in-the-gutter-sixteen-year-old mind workin here, but I thought by 'old caboose', you meant an old woman... That brought me even more giggles before I was able to stand straight and take another look at the sentence.

Norm...interesting effort...

May I suggest that all it "needs" is a man and woman in "close proximity" to each other on top of the engine above"do not hump"looking at the lens...with a certain "look".

:-)

Now..onward...to a scholarly discusssion of the word...hump.

Ina certainneighborhood, it is an endearment of sorts to say to someone...

"Ya Hump!"

In fact this (below) is the neighborhoodwhere most of the "humps" now reside.

I use smilies, but I had to paralyze them to avoid seasickness.
