I want to film the local fireworks tonight when the new year comes in. Ive done it once before but I cant find my originals and cant remember what settings I used. Do any of you guys have good settings for fireworks? Im going to use the 50mm F1.8 lens on my canon 30D, could I use my 70-200 F4L lens for fireworks. Im told this would be no good for fireworks

The focal length to use will depend on the distance you are from the display (actually it is down to the angle made between the ground and the height of the fireworks but that is probably being pedantic), but usually you will be too close for the 70-200 and possibly even the 50mm. I used 18mm when I shot fireworks as shown above.
