Next question, indoor or outdoor :-).
For sports maybe take a look at the Sigma 120-300 F2.8, a fast sharp lens that covers your expected range and is available in both Canon and Nikon mounts. I think it comes in at 2600 grams (about 5.7 pounds) so it is not exactly a hand holdable lens  http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/len...mp;navigator=3 Peter. |

What is it like to sit with a six power binocular and watch the game? 300mm IS six power. You need a fast lens - 2.8 or better, and you will be able to crop. You might be able to settle for a top zoom of 200mm (4x). Think it through. You should get a GOOD lens, a fast lens, and with either of the two camera's mentioned you will be able to crop... Figure about 1K for the lens... Dave |

If you are considering the 1Ds MkII, you can easily afford the 1D MkII, which is a camera designed for sports/action.
I would get the 1D MkII over the 1Ds MkII for sports purposes 'cause it has better faster AF & more FPS. I've heard really good things about the D2X, though. So that shouldn't be ignored. Eric |

One minor niggle I have with Canon cameras for sports is the max 1/250th of a second flash synchronization.
I prefer to shoot at 1/500th or higher with a little fill flash, but with the Canons you can't do it. The nikons have flash synchro up to 1/500th. -- Terry |

In a lot of sports the small flashes like the ex580 or sb80 either won't reach or the use of flash is not permitted.
With the Canon, flash can sync at any speed above 1/250 using high-speed sync mode and a flash that supports it. Your flash power is reduced, so use 2 heads and a flash extender :-) Peter. |
